Panthers Announce Multiple Roster Moves, Including LB Trevin Wallace to Injured Reserve
The Carolina Panthers made several roster changes ahead of this week’s action, headlined by the decision to place rookie linebacker Trevin Wallace on injured reserve. Wallace, who has been battling a shoulder injury, will be sidelined for a minimum of four weeks, per NFL rules.
Joining Wallace on injured reserve is fellow linebacker Claudin Cherelus, who also faces an extended absence. To fill the roster gaps, the Panthers promoted wide receiver Dan Chisena and linebacker Jacoby Windmon from the practice squad to the active roster, bolstering depth at their respective positions.
Trevin Wallace’s Rookie Campaign
Wallace, 21, has been a promising young talent for the Panthers since being selected with the No. 72 overall pick in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft. A standout at Kentucky, Wallace declared for the draft following his junior season, impressing scouts with his athleticism and versatility.
After signing a four-year rookie deal worth $5.96 million, including a $225,000 signing bonus, Wallace quickly earned a significant role in the Panthers’ defense. In 2024, he appeared in 13 games, starting eight, and recorded 64 total tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery. His ability to make impactful plays earned him recognition as a rising star, and his absence will be a notable blow to Carolina’s defense.
Claudin Cherelus’s Journey
Cherelus, 25, took a less conventional path to the NFL. After going undrafted out of Alcorn State in 2023, he signed a rookie deal with the New York Jets but was waived during the preseason. The Panthers claimed Cherelus shortly after, and he has since carved out a role on special teams and as a rotational linebacker.
In the 2024 season, Cherelus appeared in 13 games, contributing 28 total tackles. While not a starter, he provided valuable depth and versatility. His move to injured reserve further tests Carolina’s depth at the linebacker position.
Roster Additions
To address these absences, the Panthers elevated wide receiver Dan Chisena and linebacker Jacoby Windmon to the active roster. Chisena, known for his speed and special teams prowess, will provide support in the receiving corps and on kick coverage units. Windmon, a versatile linebacker, will add depth to a unit now missing two key contributors.
