There will be a new kicker on the Minnesota Vikings roster, and they will be breaking him in for at least the next four weeks.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, rookie Will Reichard, who was selected by Minnesota in the sixth round of the draft and who made his first 14 field goal attempts as a professional, is on his way to being placed on injured reserve due to a quad injury.
During Minnesota’s victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday Night Football, Reichard sustained an injury. Despite making it through the game, he was unable to kick the ball for the first two kicks of the season because he was struggling with the illness.
John Parker Romo, a former kicker who was an undrafted free agent and who also spent some time with the Vikings over the spring prior to his release in July, is being considered for a position with the Vikings.
Reliable sources have informed me and @TomPelissero that the Vikings are in the process of signing free agent K John Parker Romo. Romo, who started his career as an undrafted free agent with the Saints, spent this offseason with the Minnesota Vikings.
At this point, he is getting ready to make his debut with the team during the regular season of the NFL. After playing with the San Antonio Brahmas of the XFL, Romo was a free agent who had played for the team most recently. His sole field goal and extra point attempts were successful during a preseason game with the Detroit Lions in 2023.
Though he has never kicked in a regular season game in the National Football League, he did convert both of his efforts. Romo finished the XFL season with 51 points while playing for The Brahmas, making 17 of his 19 shots on goal. In kicks between 40 and 49 yards, he was 7-for-7, while in kicks beyond 50 yards, he was 2-for-3, with a long. His longest kick was 57 yards.
The New Orleans Saints signed Romo as an undrafted rookie in 2022, but he did not make the 53-man roster. Romo was initially signed by the Saints. Additionally, he has been a member of the practice squad with the Chicago Bears.
