Right now, it’s uncertain. Milwaukee faces a significant dilemma. Even though Willy Adames is one of the best shortstops in baseball, he will receive a big contract this winter.
Tim Britton, Chad Jennings, and Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic predict that the 29-year-old, who is among the most sought-after stars on the free agent market, will get a $150 million contract. In a fit, the three also floated the Atlanta Braves.
Skip Bayless Wasn’t Held Back by Shannon and Marshawn Britton, Jennings, and Gleeman stated, “Adames levelled up in 2024, setting new career highs in homers (32), RBIs (112), and wins above replacement (4.8, according to FanGraphs).” Additionally, the shortstop is entering free agency one year younger than many of his teammates as he enters his 29th season.
“The glove’s shortcoming in 2024 was that Adames’ defensive runs saved rating was below average. (Adames dropped from second among shortstops in 2023 to 12th by outs above average.) The Braves have been connected to Adames before, and this is probably not the first time. Instead of allowing him to walk to a National League foe, the Brewers should find a way to retain him.
