As the season progresses, the Denver Broncos have begun to come together, but they have now experienced another cold spell, dropping to 7-8 after losing two straight games. Despite having a mediocre defense, their offense—which ranks 16th in points and 26th in total yards—is obviously a serious issue.
After the team’s weekend 26-23 loss to the dreaded New England Patriots, head coach Sean Payton was frank about his offense on Tuesday. By way of Nick Kosmider:
When we examine some of those items, we frequently find that the issues are self-inflicted. That needs to be cleared out. We’re mediocre to below mediocre in several offensive categories at the moment because we’re not good enough.
Although Russell Wilson has occasionally looked better, the Broncos aren’t doing enough to win games consistently. For instance, they had a chance to finish the comeback on Sunday late in the fourth quarter when they recovered the ball at their own 39-yard line, but they were forced to go three and out before the Patriots scored.
Denver will probably lose out on the playoffs because they are not taking advantage of their opportunities. Wilson has undoubtedly improved from the previous season in 2023, but the team signed him to win the postseason, not to miss it. To be honest, it will be intriguing to watch whether the Broncos attempt to trade him and take a different route during the offseason.
