This football season is the worst the Sooners have had in twenty years. With a six-game losing streak, Oklahoma State is performing even worse. Both teams are happy to wait until the offseason to make the necessary adjustments. But is that really necessary? When the season is on the line, it makes sense to want to avoid playing hazardous football.

Furthermore, it’s evident that head coach Brent Venables wants to wait for a new offensive coordinator to take over by not making any significant changes. However, he is responsible for overseeing the current situation as head coach. In short, there is no way to wait till the off-season.

Key understood that he had to start from the ground up. Expecting his players to rise to the occasion and understand football on a conceptual level years beyond them wasn’t, in his eyes, asking too much. Taking inspiration from teams such as Coastal Carolina and South Carolina, Key would go on to two championship games and one all-too-short playoff run.
