The Plaers Championship ends today with the winner taking home more than double the runner-up prize money. One of three events in the Players Series, the top 16 players in the annual rankings battled it out in Telford this week as the tournament moved from last year’s venue in Wolverhampton.
But the defending champion was missing. . . Shaun Murphy lifted the trophy in 2022, but ‘The Magician’ missed out this time as he overcame his first round loss to Barry Pinches at the Welsh Open.
As the venue has changed, so have the facilities on offer 12 months ago. . no. A total of £385,000 will again be handed out to the contestants, with the winner taking home £125,000 – just like Murphy did last year.
The winner of the final will receive a consolation prize of £50,000. And the semi-finalists paid £30,000 each.

The quarter-finalists received £15,000 each, and the eight players eliminated at the first hurdle received just £10,000 each. However, there was also the standard bonus prize of £10,000 for the top break of the event for anyone who made it.
Since the tournament was held in its current form in Llandudno in 2017, the overall prize pool has not changed much . The only slight increase is due to the top middle prize, which has been doubled from the original £5,000.
The event is also worth checking out. And sponsorship from Johnstone’s Paint, as well as television coverage from ITV, Eurosport and Discovery plus, helped ensure the tournament maintained its distribution bank.
