who signed a huge extension with the 49ers on Wednesday, appears to have gotten J.J. Watt thinks.
Watt, who will retire after the 2022 NFL season, discussed Bosa’s $170 million contract extension on X, formerly known as Twitter, which the 34-year-old called “very well deserved.”
After delving into the details of Bosa’s new contract, Watt indicated that he “might” consider retiring if presented with a similar deal. “I just had a chance to sit back and watch Bosa’s new (earned) contract fall apart,” Watt wrote.
“I still have some digging to do, but I’m starting to
feel comfortable saying that I would consider
coming out of retirement if offered a similar deal.
I might.” Bosa’s lucrative five-year deal includes a
whopping $122.5 million in guaranteed money.
Although Watt drew the curtain on his NFL career
after last season, he joked that it only takes a
nine-figure contract to be considered. Watt is
busy with retirement,
announcing this summer that he will become part
owner of English Premier League club Burnley
FC. In May, he wrote to X that he was not
considering a return to football but seemed to be
enjoying his retirement.
Not everyone on social media seemed to realize
that Watt made the comments in jest, as the
former defensive star had to respond to his
original post to clarify that he was joking.
