WELSH OPEN LIVE FOR THE 2024 SNOOKER QUARTER-FINALS – MARK ALLEN FACES John Hinkins in the Blockbuster opening game

It’s quarterfinal day! Welcome back to Eurosport’s live coverage of the 2024 Welsh Open! Mark Allen squares up against longtime opponent John Higgins to advance to the semi-finals in the first action-packed match of the day. Following the conclusion of those two matches, local prospect Dominic Dale hits the table in the second match of the afternoon session with the intention of carrying on his incredible run. He faces Elliot Slessor.

    ALLEN 0-2 HIGGINS (0-1)

It’s the third frame of the day at Llandudno’s Venue Cymru. Higgins is glancing up at a pop at a long red here as Allen breaks off. which he drops squarely in the center of the hole. What a fantastic example of cueing.

    ALLEN 0-0 HIGGINS (27-72)

Higgins fires his last red, and the score is settled at 1-0. The Scottish player making a somewhat tense start.

    ALLEN 0-0 HIGGINS (27-71)

Allen tries to run up table for the next red, but he misses the pot. He goes for a tough brown to right center. Higgins also removes the black and red to ensure that the frame is complete. Allen racing after three pool balls.

    ALLEN 0-0 HIGGINS (18-63)

After holing a plant, decent cut on black to stay at the table, but he misses frame ball red. A 62 break in this first frame, but not going over the line. Is Allen going to launch a counterattack?

    ALLEN 0-0 HIGGINS (10-51)

In order to continue the break, Higgins departed with a difficult red down the side cushion with the longer rest. which he accomplishes rather easily. Excellent shot to include that. Potting was required. The black moves in, and he pushes another red to the center on the right. There are still several reds that need to be sorted.

    ALLEN 0-1 HIGGINS (0-131)

Higgins gets a perfect score of 131 overall, and he advances to 988 centuries. aiming to surpass Ronnie O’Sullivan as the second man in history to attain 1,000 centuries.

    ALLEN 0-1 HIGGINS (0-106)

During this visit, John is aiming for his 988th career century. which currently seems likely. Mark made a mistake, and now he gets to wait and see this magnificent work by Higgins. Exceptional stuff.

    ALLEN 0-1 HIGGINS (0-76)

Higgins has a good opportunity of winning this frame with a single blow. Break doesn’t sink the red he needs to move the frame to the right center until he reaches 67. Yellow puts a stop to Allen’s plans to go back to the table. Here’s your chance for a century, Higgins.

    ALLEN 0-1 HIGGINS (0-43)

John’s shot to clip home the blue to left center was excellent. opens up more reds, and now is the time to put in some serious work. will try to almost win this second frame on this visit.

    ALLEN 0-1 HIGGINS (0-29)

After losing the white ball off the blue, John made a fantastic recovery pot on a red. appears to be gaining some traction outside as he bins another red to the left center early on. made it appear simple. similar to how, at his best, he plays snooker.

    ALLEN 0-1 HIGGINS (0-6)

Higgins discontinues for the second of nine possible frames. Allen hands the yellow bag on to Higgins for an early attempt at a pot. He is unable to tickle the red in his pocket, though. In reaction, Allen is unable to cart home a mid-range red. Neither man got comfortable. John, nevertheless, follows with a gorgeous red cut that lands perfectly on blue. He gets to try these balls first.

    ALLEN 0-0 HIGGINS (10-35)

Higgins’ table, going up and down for green and back again for red. Here, he’s dropping in cut on red to land back on black while attempting to get his cue arm to work. The Reds eventually need to open up.

    ALLEN 0-0 HIGGINS (10-8)

Higgins hits a long red, but he snookers himself behind the pink after misplacing the cue ball. Though it misses it off one cushion before getting hooked back in, it nominates the blue in Baulk. chooses blue once more but ultimately hits brown this time. After that, Mark sticks up the red for John after missing his shot at a long red. Good opportunity to place a hand on the table.

    ALLEN 0-0 HIGGINS (0-0)

Then it’s off to Friday’s quarterfinal. down to a solitary table. Great turnout for this highly anticipated fight inside Venue Cymru. Early on, Higgins left a long red that was much off the potting angle. A best-of-nine frame match should not take too long to settle down. However, there will be a mid-session break for a cup of tea today following four frames.

IS THIS THE GREATEST BREAK IN HISTORY?

After losing to world champion Luca Brecel 4-1 yesterday, 2006 world champion Graeme Dott undoubtedly felt that way. “I’ve never seen a finer break,” Dott remarked following his elimination in the round of 32. Enjoy this clearing from Luca while you relax before he faces Martin O’Donnell in the quarterfinals this evening.
