Future of Roy Hodgson at Palace: ‘Reluctant’ remark made about possible successors

Steve Parish is reportedly giving the position at Crystal Palace serious thought, raising the possibility of a managerial change.

After rivals Brighton & Hove Albion humiliated Crystal Palace 4-1, Roy Hodgson’s tactics at Selhurst Park have once again come under fire.

The Guardian claims that the 76-year-old, who is serving his second spell at Palace, is seriously considering leaving his position as manager.

The defeat against the Seagulls was not only heartbreaking, but the Englishman also faced harsh criticism for starting Michael Olise at halftime even though it wasn’t thought the 22-year-old was healthy enough to play.

The Frenchman appeared on the field for 11 minutes, but he hobbled off because of what is now known to be a probable recurrence of his hamstring injury, which cast doubt on his availability.

Steve Parish is reportedly considering his options about Hodgson’s status because Palace is only five points out of the drop zone in 14th place in the table.

With just four victories in the previous 17 Premier League games, it seems likely that Hodgson’s second stint with the Eagles is coming to an end.

In football, there are always a lot of variables to take into account when deciding whether or not a new manager is appropriate at this stage of the season.

Aarons conveyed the owner’s skepticism over Hodgson’s continued employment while also indicating that possible successors might be hesitant to assume leadership at this time.

It makes sense that there is currently a cloud over Palace, since the incoming manager will be taking on a massive challenge with little time to prepare.

Although names like Steve Cooper and Julen Lopetegui have been mentioned, it is still unclear which applicant would be willing to take a position this size.

Both Cooper and Lopetegui have Premier League experience; the Welshman left Nottingham Forest in December, and the Spaniard left Wolves shortly before the current campaign began.

Hodgson’s position was reportedly in jeopardy following the away team’s hostile behavior during Palace’s 5-0 loss to Arsenal last month, which was perceived as a squandered chance to fire the experienced coach.

The outcome of Parish’s choice about the managing role at Palace will become clear in due course, since Hodgson’s time in South London appears to be running out.
